Details of Levon Kocharyan's Arrest Revealed in Court Proceedings

Physical pain was experienced, but it later subsided, said Hrachik Khachatryan, one of the police officers recognized as a victim in the case involving Levon Kocharyan (currently a member of the "Armenia" parliamentary faction) and the Secretary of the Armenian Triathlon Federation, Sergey Asaturyan, while testifying in court today.

The prosecuting attorney inquired about the details of the defendants' apprehension. According to the police officer, they initially attempted to arrest Sergey Asaturyan but were unsuccessful. Since they could not detain him, they tried to arrest Levon Kocharyan.

“At that time, he fell to the ground and hit my foot twice. We somehow managed to get him into our 'Gazelle' vehicle, but we couldn't seat him, so we took him to our other car,” the officer noted.

The officer also mentioned that he felt physical pain during the incidents, but it subsided afterwards.

“Could you have arrested Levon Kocharyan alone?” asked the prosecutor.

“Alone... probably not,” the officer replied.

“How many people were involved in the arrest, and why were so many needed?” the prosecutor pressed.

“Since we did not arrest Sergey Asaturyan that day, as far as I remember, there were 6 or 7 of us trying to apprehend Levon Kocharyan. Initially, the participants of the demonstration were pulling him, and it was not working because Levon Kocharyan was physically fit and strong, which is why we tried with 7 people to make it easier,” the officer explained.

It should be noted that Levon Kocharyan was arrested on September 25, 2023, and released on November 6. Both Kocharyan and Asaturyan were subject to a travel ban, but on March 12, the measure of restraint for Kocharyan was changed to bail, set at 2 million drams.
