Street Vendors Are Clearing Out 100 Dram Coins
Starting November 1, people using public transport in Yerevan must have 100 dram coins or the option to pay via QR code. This issue has been a source of concern for many. Recently, people have been on a quest to collect 100 dram coins, literally wiping them out from shops, banks, and kiosks. They even compete with each other, boasting about how many coins they have managed to gather: 'I’ve got half a kilo, I have 40 pieces.'
This is reported by the newspaper 'Hraparak.' 'Those living in the regions, who used to ask their friends to bring nuts, honey, or autumn peaches, are now asking them to collect 100 dram coins and bring them to the city. However, there will be other issues emerging soon. For example, the 'Tel-Cell' payment terminal and the 100 dram coin terminal are not located in the same area of the bus. This means that when boarding the bus, crowds will form, leading to inconvenience for those using both QR codes and 100 dram coins to get on.'
