Agarak Border Checkpoint to Be Guarded by Armenian Border Troops, NSS Director
It has been preliminarily agreed that from January 1, 2025, the entire border management at the "Agarak" border control point will be carried out by the Armenian border troops. This was announced by the Director of the National Security Service of Armenia, Armen Abazyan, during a briefing with journalists, in response to a question regarding the potential withdrawal of Russian border guards from the Armenian-Iranian border.
Abazyan stated that discussions are currently ongoing between Armenia and Russia regarding joint service on the Armenian-Iranian border. The NSS director also spoke about the possibility of controlling the Armenian-Turkish border solely by Armenian forces. "In a phased manner, it is possible for Armenian border guards to oversee the Armenian-Turkish border, but there is currently no such decision," he said.
