Wherever They Are, We Will Definitely Pursue Them: Erdogan
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced that the authorities intend to continue the fight against the FETÖ organization until its complete dissolution. This statement came after the death of the organization's leader, Fethullah Gülen, which Ankara associates with the organization of the 2016 coup attempt.
The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, officially confirmed Gülen's death. “We will continue the struggle as long as FETÖ is not completely destroyed. Wherever they are, we will definitely pursue them,” said the Turkish President.
The Turkish authorities accuse Gülen's organization, referred to as FETÖ (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization), of being involved in the coup attempt that took place in July 2016. Following the rebellion in Turkey, more than 80,000 people were arrested, and around 150,000 civil servants, including military personnel, were dismissed.
Gülen himself, who was in the USA, condemned the coup attempt and denied the charges against him. The FETÖ organization was highly influential in all sectors of the country—from education to politics to security forces. Its activities were officially banned in Turkey and classified as terrorist after the 2016 coup attempt.
Turkish authorities have repeatedly accused the USA at the highest levels of funding and supporting the organization.
