Iran Begins Constructing Barriers Along Its Borders

Iran's authorities have embarked on the construction of barriers along its eastern borders with the aim of reducing security risks. This was reported by the IRNA agency.

“Considering the assessments made by military and security services, the most problematic areas are borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, which account for 80 percent of drug trafficking into Iran,” stated Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi.

He clarified that the project also aims to prevent fuel and goods smuggling and to counter illegal migration. According to him, the construction of walls has already begun in the Sistan and Baluchestan and Khorasan Razavi provinces. The next phase will involve strengthening the western borders in Ilam, Kurdistan, and West Azerbaijan provinces.

The general added that the funding for the project is secured, and the challenge is to ensure that the necessary equipment reaches the construction sites.
