Scandal in School: Teacher Assaulted Student, Claimed He Had Killed Turks

A resident of Yerevan, 34, reached out to Shamshyan.com today, providing details about an incident that occurred on October 11 at Yerevan's Mkhitar Gosh Secondary School No. 18. The parent stated: "My child is 14 years old and is studying in the 9th grade at that school. On October 11, at 3:30 PM, my child's homeroom teacher called me urgently to come to the school, claiming that during military science class, my child had misbehaved, causing a disturbance, and that a fight had broken out. The school reported that all this occurred during a NKR (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) lesson. When the anthem was played, the children caused a ruckus, and the 54-year-old teacher began hitting my son and his classmate in front of their peers. He even stated that since he is a war veteran, these children are Turks and that he has killed such Turks before.

I went into the school and scolded my child, unaware that the teacher had also hit him. I even apologized to the teacher before we went home. Later that evening, I received a call from the parent committee, asking what right the teacher had to hit a child. Until then, I had no idea that my child had been struck. Subsequently, other parents sent messages confirming that, yes, he had been hit, that the desk had been overturned, and so on. I also noticed that there were marks from the blows on my child's body and sent the pictures to the homeroom teacher.

The next day, I went back to the school, and the homeroom teacher, in an attempt to justify himself, said that they had supposedly saved both my child and the teacher. I told the school that this incident would not go unpunished and that I would address all relevant bodies and make it public, as no one has the right to lay a hand on my child. After all this, this morning, the homeroom teacher called me to the school and confessed that, yes, the teacher had hit my child, but he placed the blame on my child. He suggested that they resolve the issue discreetly, without it becoming public. However, I am determined to pursue this to the end, so that everyone knows and is held accountable. Violence must be eliminated from schools," the mother stated.

Auroranews contacted the Police Department for a comment on the matter, where they confirmed that the case is being investigated. We also reached out to the City Hall, where we were directed to send a written inquiry.
