Arrested Individuals in Soldier's Death Case
As already reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, on October 13, 2024, around 09:30, the body of Agasi Serzhi Dallakyan, a soldier from the Ministry of Defense's military unit N, was found in the vicinity of the concentration area of the unit's guarding post, with a gunshot wound to the neck. An investigation was launched the same day at the ninth garrison investigative department of the Investigative Committee, pursuant to Article 155, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and the investigation was entrusted to an investigative group.
As a result of extensive evidential and procedural actions, it was established that A. Dallakyan died as a result of suicide. Specifically, the investigation revealed factual data indicating that the squad commander of the same unit, a lieutenant, and a regular soldier from among the conscripts violated the rules of combat duty by abandoning their assigned positions and together humiliated the honor and dignity of the soldier Agasi Dallakyan, who was on duty. Consequently, in a desperate situation, while fulfilling the observer's duties at the same position on that day, he fired a single shot with the AKM-type automatic rifle assigned to him and committed suicide.
Based on the factual data obtained, a petition was submitted to the supervising prosecutor to initiate public criminal prosecution against the aforementioned two individuals involved in military service, which was granted. They have been arrested. The squad commander has been charged under Article 540, Part 2, Subsections 1, 2, and 3, and Article 522, Part 2, Subsections 1, 2, and 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code, while the regular soldier has been charged under Article 540, Part 2, Subsections 1 and 3, and Article 522, Part 2, Subsections 1 and 3. Petitions have been submitted to the court to select detention as a measure of restraint, which have been granted.
The investigation is ongoing, and all necessary actions are being taken to clarify the complete circumstances of the case and to ascertain the possible involvement of other individuals.
