VIDEO: 'Red Alert' Mode in France

Mariam Z.

France has placed six departments on high alert due to flooding caused by 'exceptional locations', with one area receiving 630 mm of rain in just 48 hours, according to Reuters.

The 'red alert' zone includes Lyon, the country's third-largest city, as well as Cannes. Authorities have announced road closures, evacuated residents from nearby areas, and urged citizens to avoid putting themselves in danger while taking photos and videos.

There are currently no reports of casualties or injuries, and it remains unclear how much damage the floods have inflicted on the economies of the affected departments.

The flooding in southern France occurred one week after remnants of Storm 'Kirk' swept through Western Europe and nearly a month after the flooding in Cannes. Earlier, in early September, Central Europe experienced the strongest flooding in the region in at least two decades.
