‘Armenian Partners Have Taken a Break’ - Lavrov

Armenia wishes to engage in direct communication with Turkey for the normalization of relations. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference following a meeting of foreign ministers within the ‘3+3’ format in Istanbul.

According to Lavrov, Russia has actively facilitated the initiation of this process, which also involves Iran; however, no meetings are currently scheduled. “Armenian partners have taken a break. They believe that it is necessary to have direct communication with the Turks now and understand what should be done,” Lavrov said.

He emphasized that, in any case, relations between Yerevan and Ankara are linked to Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization. For this reason, it was suggested during the meeting to discuss these issues together and also involve other countries, so that Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan can reach an agreement as soon as possible.

“Russia and Iran, for their part, are ready to support if there is interest from the direct participants,” he concluded.
