VIDEO: Volodin Reveals the Cause of the USSR's Collapse
The Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, has discussed the collapse of the USSR and the role of a popular film from that era.
During a State Duma session in which legislation prohibiting the promotion of liberal ideologies to children was being debated, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin recalled the film "Interdevochka" and the events that led to the downfall of the Soviet Union. The meeting was broadcast on "Duma TV."
“Look at where the destruction of the Soviet Union began. In 1989, during the days when the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was still actively working, the film 'Interdevochka' hit the screens. Everyone applauded, there were queues in cinemas, even the secretaries of the Central Committee were watching it. What does it all mean? The union no longer exists,” Volodin commented.
The film, created by Pyotr Todorovsky based on Vladimir Kunin's story, tells the tale of a prostitute who dreams of marrying a foreigner and moving abroad, hoping to become a respectable lady. However, upon reaching her dream, she realizes that she has not found happiness. The film's ending is tragic, revealing her dark past, which leads to the persecution of her mother.
