Microsoft Accuses Russia and China of Collaborating with Cybercriminals

Cybercriminals are increasingly aiding Russia and China in their assaults against the United States, claims Microsoft. This is reported by ABC News.

According to a digital threat report published by Microsoft, Russia, China, and Iran are increasingly relying on criminal networks for cyber espionage and hacking activities against adversaries such as the United States. For instance, an Iranian-linked hacking group infiltrated an Israeli dating site and then attempted to sell or purchase the personal data they obtained. In another case, investigators uncovered a Russian criminal network that breached over 50 Ukrainian military electronic devices in June, seemingly searching for information that could assist in the war.

For countries like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, teaming up with cybercriminals is a mutually beneficial arrangement for both sides. Governments can expand their cyber operations' scope and effectiveness without incurring additional costs, while criminals gain new profit opportunities and promise of government protection.
