Iran Actively Planning Assassination Attempts, Politico Reports
Iran is reportedly "actively planning assassination attempts" against Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate in the United States. This information comes from Politico, citing sources familiar with intelligence data.
According to the publication, the U.S. intelligence community believes that the threat from Iran against Trump and other senior officials from his administration has "significantly increased" in recent months. "The intelligence community assesses that Iran continues to actively plan operations against former senior U.S. officials, including Trump, as a form of revenge for the killing of General Qasem Soleimani," one source is quoted as saying.
The publication noted that in January 2023, Iran imposed sanctions on more than 50 American officials, including former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, for their alleged roles in the death of General Soleimani, who was killed on January 3, 2020, as a result of a U.S. airstrike in Iraq.
