Azerbaijan Places New Demands
There is no alternative to peace, yet Azerbaijan continues to place new demands, stated Vahagn Khachaturyan.
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, sees the possibility that Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement before the end of the year.
He remarked in an interview with Shant TV regarding the likelihood of signing a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan at a time when Azerbaijan is constantly issuing threats against Armenia and continually setting new demands for signing the peace agreement. The President noted, “It is very desirable for Armenia and Azerbaijan to sign the peace agreement before the COP29 summit scheduled to be held in Baku, but this may not happen. However, in the nearer future, perhaps after COP29, we may have the opportunity to sign the peace agreement, as its main content is understandable for both sides.”
According to him, just as in life, everything is not easily achieved or granted in politics. “We must patiently promote our ideas, even against the backdrop of all those statements that are very concerning both for our society and for us. We are trying to respond to all this with steps that will not escalate the situation or increase tensions but will rather be aimed at establishing peace,” the President of Armenia emphasized.
He reaffirmed once again that the statements made by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and various representatives of the government regarding the willingness to sign the peace agreement at this moment are still valid. “But the Azerbaijani side, of course, raises certain issues that cause all this to be postponed. However, what has happened in recent years, what we have now achieved, and seemingly being in the final phase has not come easily,” Khachaturyan concluded.
