Armenia Officially Does Not Revoke Its Signature, Says Overchuk

Armenia has officially stated that it is not revoking its signature from the trilateral statement signed by Moscow, Baku, and Yerevan in 2020, which allowed for the establishment of a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who also noted that there has been no progress in the trilateral working group for the unblocking of communications in the region for a year and a half.

“Armenia is not officially withdrawing from the trilateral statement and is not revoking its signature, but at the same time, there has been almost no progress at the level of deputy prime ministers in the trilateral working group for about two years, or at least a year and a half since last summer,” Overchuk said in an interview with Russia’s First Channel.

According to Overchuk, the unblocking of economic and transport corridors in the region is only possible with Russia's involvement. It should be recalled that on January 11, 2021, a meeting took place in Moscow between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

As a result of the negotiations, a trilateral statement was adopted, primarily concerning the implementation of the 9th point of the November 9, 2020 statement regarding the unblocking of all economic and transport communications in the region. According to this point, all economic and transport communications in the region will be unblocked. Armenia ensures the transport connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with the transport connection monitored by the Russian FSB border service.
