Controversial Regulations on Border Demarcation Sent to National Assembly

The regulations of the border demarcation commissions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which were approved by the Constitutional Court at the end of September, have been sent to the National Assembly for ratification.

During the discussions, the government representative will be Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, who is the head of the Armenian commission on border demarcation.

The regulations were signed two months later than the established deadline, and the text was published only two days after that. The government clarified that the delay in disclosing the content was also related to the need to synchronize the process with Azerbaijan as much as possible.

According to this document, Yerevan and Baku have agreed to carry out the border demarcation based on the 1991 Almaty Declaration, but this agreement is not final. The regulations indicate that the process might continue later under different principles, after the adoption of a peace agreement.

The regulations consist of 7 articles, mainly containing technical details related to the process and general formulations. The text of the regulations has not been published in Azerbaijan, and it has not gone through any procedures yet.
