Strong Magnetic Storm on Earth: What to Expect in the Second Half of the Day
A strong magnetic storm has begun on Earth today. This information was shared by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the 'Phobos' weather center, on his Telegram channel.
After 6:42 AM Yerevan time, disturbances in the geomagnetic field reached the level of a G3-class strong magnetic storm. He noted that a weak magnetic storm, which started on Monday night and ended in the morning hours, has resumed in the second half of the day, with the Earth’s magnetosphere sometimes fluctuating up to the level of a G2-class medium magnetic storm. Variations between weak and medium magnetic storms also occurred last night.
"We will rely on scientific forecasts and assume that the strong magnetic storm will be short-lived and will begin to weaken in the coming hours, after which it will cease, and the geomagnetic field will enter an unstable state in the second half of the day," the meteorologist added.
Leus explained that there has been another maximum possible X-class flare on the Sun, with its intensity rated at X2.1. The peak power of this flare occurred on Monday at 11:13 PM Yerevan time. Judging by the position of the flash core, this is already the third X-class flare, all from the same area #3842.
