Armenia May Acquire K2 'Black Panther' Battle Tanks

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, visited South Korea in September and negotiated the supply of South Korean weapons, showing special interest in the K2 tanks. This information was reported by the defense news platform ‘Army Recognition’.

It is mentioned that the Minister of Defense participated in a high-level meeting related to artificial intelligence organized by the South Korean Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 9 and 10. Prior to this, on September 6, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, also traveled to South Korea for several meetings dedicated to weapon acquisition issues.

The K2 'Black Panther' battle tanks are manufactured by Hyundai Rotem. They are considered among the most expensive tanks in the world, costing around $8.5 million. The K2 battle tank, used by the South Korean Army, is equipped with advanced technology that is particularly effective and well-suited for mountainous conditions. Poland and Turkey have also acquired the K2 tanks.

The publication states, 'The K2 main battle tank, currently in use by the South Korean army, is equipped with advanced technology that is particularly suitable for mountainous terrain.' The media outlet also writes that in Armenia, where nearly 86% of the territory is mountainous, the acquisition of these tanks could provide significant strategic advantages by enhancing the mobility and precision of military operations on the battlefield.
