Judge Who Acquitted Serj Sargsyan Has Had His Powers Terminated

The powers of Vahe Misakyan, a judge of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Criminal Court, have been terminated. The Supreme Judicial Council announced its decision earlier today to subject the judge to disciplinary action, approving the request from the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

According to the submitted request, the disciplinary proceedings against the judge were initiated based on a report from the Prosecutor's Office regarding procedural deadline violations in the case of Vazgen Manukyan. It is noteworthy that Vahe Misakyan previously acquitted Armenia's third president, Serj Sargsyan.

Previously, on April 4, the Supreme Judicial Council had issued a severe reprimand against judge Vahe Misakyan. The disciplinary proceedings were again initiated based on the Prosecutor's Office's report concerning procedural deadline violations in the case of Vazgen Manukyan.
