Ongoing Events Raise Major Concerns: Mirzoyan

Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, delivered a speech at the 45th Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie.

“Dear Madam Secretary-General, esteemed ministers, and respected colleagues, allow me first of all to congratulate the French Republic for hosting the ministerial meeting of the Francophonie and the upcoming summit.

Dear colleagues, the ongoing events in the world are indeed a source of great concern. We are living in a geopolitically complex time characterized by an increasing number of conflicts and crises, as well as a weakening of multilateral institutions and the supremacy of international law.

Our organization, with its geographical and cultural diversity, fundamental values, humanitarian, educational, cultural, environmental protection, and women's advancement progressive agendas, has sufficient potential to counter these challenges.

Dear colleagues, Armenia welcomes the resolution on 'Crisis Situations in the Francophone Region, Overcoming Them, and Strengthening Peace' where we have successfully addressed security threats present in the Francophone region and outlined pathways for overcoming them.

We consider it important that the resolution supports the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on respect for the territorial integrity of states, in accordance with the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. The resolution also acknowledges the progress made in delimiting the interstate border based on the principles reaffirmed in the April 19, 2024 Protocol and encourages the reopening of regional communication routes based on respect for sovereignty, national jurisdiction, equality, and reciprocity.

Armenia is committed to continuing its efforts to promote an agenda aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region. We have repeatedly expressed our readiness to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan without further delay. I am confident that the support of the Francophone family for the peace process will send a positive signal to it,” the minister’s message reads.
