There is Enormous Disappointment Among the Armenian People Towards Russia: Mirzoyan

It is no secret that there is enormous disappointment within Armenian society regarding Russia and the allied relationship with it. This was stated by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the Warsaw Security Conference.

“For decades, the Armenian people believed that if something happened, Russia would help and protect us. But Armenians have seen that this is not the case; we did not receive that assistance. Moreover, after the 2020 war, Russian peacekeepers were sent to Nagorno-Karabakh, but we saw that during the forced displacement, the peacekeeping mission did not work; it failed to justify itself,” said Mirzoyan.

He also recalled that when an attack occurred on Armenia's internationally recognized borders, Yerevan's official allies within the CSTO did not respond in accordance with Armenia's expectations. According to Mirzoyan, all this has led to the fact that the population of Armenia has become disillusioned and is now seeking alternatives.

“This situation has brought us closer to the European Union and the United States. In terms of societal values, we were close to the EU, Western countries, but in terms of security, the people of Armenia had psychologically connected themselves with Russia. Now this second component has disappeared. People see no reason to completely disconnect from the European Union anymore,” stated Mirzoyan.
