Complaint Filed Against Gurgen Melkonyan
ArmLur.am has learned that "Arm Konsul" is demanding the initiation of a criminal case and holding accountable member of the National Assembly of Armenia from the "Civil Contract" faction Gurgen (Gagik) Melkonyan.
On September 10, during an interview, Gurgen Melkonyan made statements against the residents of Artsakh, which allegedly contain elements defined by Article 329, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. These statements incite hatred, discrimination, intolerance, or hostility based on ethnic origin and political circumstances and were made publicly using mass media.
Gurgen Melkonyan expressed the following remarks (quoted verbatim): "Their (Artsakh's) building (the building of the Artsakh Republic representation) is over there; they should live there for themselves and work, but they should not interfere in our country’s affairs, do not interfere. This is the problem; Artsakh was their (the residents of Artsakh) country. They handed over Artsakh and came here. Now they should behave like guests, not want to become the owners. They have already been the owners for twenty years, and that is why this country is in this state."
In connection with this incident, the "Arm Konsul" law firm has filed a complaint against member of the National Assembly Gurgen Melkonyan with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia based on the presence of elements of the allegedly committed crime under Article 329, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
