Armenians from Artsakh Under Surveillance: Mandatory Requirement for Leaving the Country
Important news for Armenians from Artsakh. This concerns security: Individuals forcibly displaced from Artsakh who have a temporary protection status, meaning they are considered refugees, must present their status certificate when crossing the borders of Armenia.
According to Iravaban.net, Nelli Davtyan, Deputy Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service, stated that this measure is taken exclusively for safety reasons, with the aim of protecting these individuals.
“Azerbaijan has announced that several Armenians from Artsakh are under surveillance. It is not ruled out that such situations exist. When an individual already possesses citizenship, and another country has issued a search notice against that citizen, communication is established with the individual's home country, meaning the person already has protection from that state. If there is no citizenship, there is danger. At the very least, it should be noted that the individual is a refugee, has no citizenship, but has protection from the Republic of Armenia, so that contact is established with us, not with the country that has issued the search warrant,” she emphasized.
The refugee status certificate allows for safe passage across the border. If an individual obtains citizenship while crossing the border and an issue arises, the connection will still be with the citizen's home country, that is, Armenia, not Azerbaijan,” she noted.
