We Are Committed to Closing the Chapter of Conflict in Our Region: Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan participated in a discussion organized by the UN Security Council titled "Leadership for Peace: United for a Secure Future Around the UN Charter." Greeting the attendees, the Prime Minister first thanked the Slovenian side for organizing this open discussion and added, "The global security crisis has undermined the multilateral system. We continue to witness a growing number of conflicts and crises that have a severe impact on the civilian population, including the most vulnerable.

The United Nations must counteract attempts to create situations where the use of force in interstate relations, acts of aggression, and gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law are considered normal. Since the theme of today’s discussion is ‘Leadership for Peace,’ I want to share my belief that peace requires leadership and sincere political courage. My government and I are committed to closing the chapter of conflict in our region and to transforming the current dynamics into collaborations for prosperity, stability, and peace.

Armenia is ready to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. The Armenian side has proposed to sign the already agreed articles of the peace treaty before the COP29 to be held in Baku, thus creating a conducive environment for advancing the peace process. Armenia's government initiative, 'Peace Crossroads,' aims to unlock the economic potential of the region and to strengthen economic and cultural ties, thereby contributing to political dialogue and achieving comprehensive peace for the benefit of all peoples.

We are prepared to use the positive momentum and continue the boundary delimitation process based on the regulations between our delimitation commissions, relying on the 1991 Almaty Declaration. The strong and unequivocal support of the United Nations for Armenia’s efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the region is extremely important. Thank you for your attention."
