Former Yerevan Mayor Artashes Geghamyan Has Passed Away
Artashes Geghamyan, the former mayor of Yerevan, president of the "National Unity" party, and former member of the National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 74.
Geghamyan served as a member of the National Assembly for many years. He was elected as an MP from constituency number 7 from 1995 to 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he became an MP through proportional representation with the "Law and Unity" bloc. He served again from 2003 to 2007 as an MP from the AM party through proportional representation and was the head of the faction.
On May 6, 2012, he was elected as an MP through proportional representation from the Republican Party of Armenia. He also became an MP in 2017 from the Republican Party's list.
Geghamyan was a presidential candidate in 1998, 2003, and 2008. In 1997, he founded and led the "National Unity" party.
