VIDEO: Estonian Acrobat Becomes First Person to Walk on a Tightrope Across the World

Estonian acrobat Jaan Ruz has become the first person to walk across the world on a tightrope, successfully traversing the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, which separates Asia and Europe, reports Hürriyet newspaper.

“Red Bull athlete Jaan Ruz walked from Asia to Europe on a tightrope in Istanbul,” the publication adds.

The newspaper described the event as a “historic step” witnessed by residents of Istanbul.

The Bosphorus strait measures only 30 kilometers in length and varies in width from 700 to 3700 meters. It connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and, along with the Dardanelles, connects to the Mediterranean Sea. The shores of the strait belong to a single country—Turkey. Istanbul sits on both sides of the Bosphorus, making it the only city in the world that spans two continents simultaneously—Europe and Asia.
