Armenian Team's Brilliant Victory and Position at the World Olympiad
In the 5th round of the chess Olympiad taking place in Budapest, the Armenian women's team secured its 5th victory, triumphing over one of the tournament's main favorites, the Chinese team, with a score of 2.5:1.5. Lily Mkrtchyan and Anna Sargsyan each earned one point for our team. With a perfect score, the women’s team shares first place with India and Mongolia.
In the first four rounds, the Armenian women's team had triumphed over the teams of Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Hungary's second team, and Vietnam.
Today, the men's team also achieved victory, defeating the Swedish team with a score of 2.5:1.5. Gabriel Sargsyan contributed to the team’s success by bringing in a victorious point.
In the first three rounds, the Armenian men's team had defeated the Maltese team (4:0), the Andorran team (3:1), and the Brazilian team (3:1), while in the fourth round, they lost to the Chinese team (1.5:2.5).
