Three Participants of Protest Detained on Yerevan-Ashtarak Highway, Reports Ministry of Internal Affairs
On September 10, three citizens were detained from the Yerevan-Ashtarak highway, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Police to NEWS.am.
According to the Ministry, "The citizens were detained under Article 182 of the Code of Administrative Offenses." Earlier, it was reported that residents of the village of Kasakh had blocked the Yerevan-Ashtarak highway with their vehicles in protest.
They were objecting to the decision made by the head of the Nairi community, Norair Sargsyan, during a council meeting, which annulled a previous resolution that excluded the right to build permits for land plots allocated to residents for village purposes.
A confrontation and scuffle ensued between the participants of the protest and the police who attempted to clear the road, with both sides exchanging insults. The police detained several residents and, in some instances, used force to remove vehicles from the street to reopen the road.
