This is a crucial moment for EU-Armenia relations, says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has received a delegation led by Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Promoting the European Way of Life.

The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Schinas's visit to Armenia and noted that it would contribute to discussions on the Armenia-EU cooperation agenda and further development of collaboration. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that this is a crucial moment for relations between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia.

“I am pleased that noticeable progress is being observed in our relations. Negotiations are starting concerning the liberalization of the visa regime, and a decision has been made to support the Republic of Armenia through the European Peace Facility, which we highly appreciate,” the Prime Minister stated.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia is effectively expanding its agenda with the European Union. He added that particularly after his speech in the European Parliament last year, discussions are ongoing in our country regarding the possibility of starting the process of Armenia becoming a member of the European Union.

“This is not a straightforward issue, but it has become part of the Armenian political agenda, so it is necessary to approach this topic thoroughly and comprehensively. It will be important to also hear the observations and recommendations of our EU partners,” the head of government stated.

Nikol Pashinyan underscored the importance of the European Civilian Mission's activities in Armenia in the context of ensuring peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister also emphasized the critical nature of close cooperation with the EU to further advance institutional reforms in our country more effectively.

Margaritis Schinas highlighted the EU's interest in developing relations with Armenia and promoting reforms in the Republic. At the same time, the European Commission's Vice President expressed hope for effective collaboration with the Armenian Government regarding the dialogue on visa liberalization.

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the implementation of agreements reached during the high-level meeting on April 5 of this year in Brussels between the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of the European Commission, and the U.S. Secretary of State. Ideas were exchanged on other regionally significant issues.
