Will Russia and Iran Sign a Comprehensive Agreement?

The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Iran and Russia may be signed in October at the BRICS summit in Kazan or later during a separate meeting between the presidents, as the development of the document is complete. This was reported to TASS by Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Russia.

“We have discussed this issue with our Russian partners. The initial idea is indeed this,” said the diplomat in response to a question about whether the agreement could be signed at the BRICS summit in Kazan. According to him, the summit is a significant event.

“Many country leaders are invited. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be the host, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshki will be making his first visit to Russia. We can also postpone the signing of the document during a separate meeting, either in Tehran or Moscow. This is currently being worked on, and two options are being considered. A decision has not yet been made. The first option is signing the document within the framework of the Kazan summit. The second option is during a separate meeting,” the ambassador stated.

He also emphasized that the process of developing a major contract between the countries has been completed. “We have essentially finalized it; it is undergoing domestic procedures. The document is ready for signing,” Jalali added.

The BRICS summit will take place in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
