“Why Are You Targeting My Father?” Says Police Chief's Son

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reports: On September 5, Hetq.am published that the son of the police chief and Major General Aram Hovhannisyan had appropriated the parking space used by the police, then seized a land plot belonging to the community of Yerevan, where he constructed a building unlawfully, later legalizing it. “Hetq” has uncovered the illegal activities of the police chief's son and revealed a chain of systematic actions.

On this occasion, “Zhoghovurd” directed several questions to Hrachya Hovhannisyan, the son of the police chief.

- Mr. Hovhannisyan, it was revealed on September 5 that you have seized the Shengavit police parking area. How did you manage to take that land from the police?

- First of all, I will reiterate that the mentioned area was not police property. If it had been under police jurisdiction, the State Property Management Committee would have had the right to sell it, not the municipality. From this, it follows that the land plot was community property, and during that time, the owner was the community and the community council. I learned about the auction for the land from the announcement posted by the municipality, which everyone could refer to. I participated in the auction and purchased it, adhering to all the requirements set by law.

- In 2015, you were quite young; how did you manage to earn enough money to purchase land from the municipality and then construct a building?

- First, I should note that I have been engaged in private entrepreneurship and agriculture from an early age, and I have earned money. At that time, I held no public office. As for the construction, I built the building with a loan from the bank. I am still making payments and repaying the loan.

- You confidently assert that your father has no involvement in all this, but what if the contrary is proven?

- The article published today mentions my father more than it does me. In other words, the target of the article was not me, but my father. It is clear that it was related to his professional activities.
