The presence of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia is a matter to be discussed between Armenia and the EU, stated the Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee, Sarkis Khhandanyan, in a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly.

"EU monitors are stationed on Armenian territory and are conducting monitoring from the Armenian side of the border, so Armenia and the EU must determine when, for how long, and with what personnel the EU monitors should be present," he said.

He added that something might change once a peace agreement is signed. "When the delimitation process is completed and regional peace is established, it might be logical that the need for monitoring is no longer there, but at this moment, such a question is naturally not being discussed," emphasized the ruling party member.

Earlier, Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, stated that Azerbaijan does not see the need for the continuation of the EU civilian mission’s operations at the border with Armenia.

As for the platforms on which the peace agreement could be signed, or under whose auspices, Khhandanyan responded that the question is still open. He did not rule out that it could take place in a bilateral or trilateral format.
