Dozens of Officials Executed in North Korea Due to Floods

North Korea has executed between 20 to 30 officials held responsible for devastating floods that occurred at the end of July, reports TV Chosun, citing a South Korean official, according to RTVI.

According to an anonymous source from the South Korean broadcaster, the officials were executed for their "failure to prevent the damage" caused by the floods.

As reported by NK News, citing South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS), Seoul is "carefully monitoring" the situation regarding the alleged executions.

As Yonhap News Agency reminds, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un stated at the end of July that he would punish officials responsible for the damage caused by heavy rain in the Jagang-do and Pyongbuk-do provinces.

South Korean media report that the number of victims or those missing due to the floods in North Korea could exceed 1,000. In response, Kim Jong-un labeled such figures as "fabricated," while South Korean media referred to them as "garbage." North Korean authorities have been forced to evacuate over 15,000 people affected by the heavy rain and floods from the capital, Pyongyang, as reported by the North Korean Central News Agency.
