Investigative Committee Reveals Details of Car Accident Resulting in Deaths of Two Children
On September 2, 2024, at 10:00 PM, a report was received regarding a road traffic accident that occurred on the Yerevan-Meghri highway near Zangakatun, resulting in injuries. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on the same day, around 9:45 PM, a 'MERCEDES' vehicle collided with the rear of a 'ZIL' freight truck on the 70.5 kilometer stretch of the Yerevan-Meghri road. As a result of the collision, one of the passengers of the 'MERCEDES', a 10-year-old girl, died at the scene, while a 3-month-old boy was pronounced dead en route to Ararat Medical Center (both are the driver's children). The driver and two passengers, one of whom is the driver’s wife and the other their 5-year-old daughter, were transported to the Ararat Medical Center with bodily injuries. The mother's condition is reported as extremely critical, and the daughter's condition is assessed as severe.
In connection with the incident, on September 2, a criminal case was initiated in the Vedi Investigation Division of the Ararat Regional Investigation Department under the third part of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The scene and the damaged vehicles have been inspected. The sobriety of the drivers was checked, and it was established that they were sober at the time of the accident. Forensic examinations of the bodies and technical examinations of the vehicles have been appointed.
Necessary and urgent investigative and procedural actions are being carried out to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
Notification: An individual accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court order that has entered into legal force in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
