Contract Soldier Arrested on Charges of Inflicting Grave Bodily Harm
The Investigative Committee informs that on August 28, 2024, in the evening, an alert was received regarding the transport of a 19-year-old resident of Aygedzor village to the Berd Medical Center in Tavush Province with stab and cut wounds to the right side of his chest and right flank.
It was established that on the same day, around 8:30 PM, during a dispute over domestic issues in the inter-village area of Aygedzor, a group of several youths from the village clashed with a yet unidentified group of individuals, exchanging blows, during which the aforementioned 19-year-old resident was stabbed.
Considering that some of the participants in the incident, including the 19-year-old, are contract servicemen, on August 29, a criminal case was initiated in the sixth garrison investigative department of the Military Investigative Main Department of the Republic of Armenia's Investigative Committee under Article 166, Part 1, and Article 195, Part 2, Points 5 and 9 of the RA Criminal Code.
During the preliminary investigation, the identity of the individual who inflicted stab and cut wounds on the 19-year-old was identified; he is from the Aparan community in the Aragatsotn province. Based on the facts gathered during investigative and procedural actions, public criminal prosecution was initiated against him under Article 166, Part 1, and Article 195, Part 2, Point 5 of the RA Criminal Code, for deliberately inflicting intentional harm to various parts of other individuals' bodies during the incident as part of a group, and subsequently, with a knife taken from his pocket, intentionally attacking the 19-year-old resident of Aygedzor twice, causing life-threatening bodily injuries.
On August 30, the accused was arrested and presented to the court of general jurisdiction of Tavush Province. The court approved the investigator's motion to apply detention as a measure of restraint. The preliminary investigation continues.
