Court Accepts Arushanyan's Appeal Against Actions of Probation Service

The Syunik General Jurisdiction Court has accepted the appeal of Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan against the actions of the Probation Service. The session will be held in written proceedings and will be presided over by Judge Gor Gasparyan, as reported by the court department without providing additional details.

Arush Arushanyan's lawyer, Armen Melkonyan, has generally declined to comment, asserting that he is not representing Arushanyan in this matter. The Probation Service has submitted a motion to the court to incarcerate Mayor Arush Arushanyan. It is unclear whether Arushanyan's appeal is related to this request, but last week, when lawyer Armen Melkonyan announced that the actions of the Probation Service were unlawful, Arushanyan himself insisted that he does not share his lawyer's opinion.

"I do not share my lawyer's opinion that the Probation Service has acted unlawfully. This body has done what it believes is within its authority. We have also performed our functions, and the council has done its part. The court will provide a final resolution to this issue. As an official, I have the greatest respect for state structures," Arushanyan said.

Attempts to contact the Goris Mayor have been unsuccessful. The court department also reported that the motion from the Ministry of Justice's probation service has been accepted, but the date of the session is still unknown.
