Egypt's President Calls for Preservation of Lebanon's Sovereignty
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has warned of further regional escalation during a meeting on Sunday with a senior U.S. general following the escalation of cross-border hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, according to AFP.
The Egyptian president also urged for a "decisive stance from the international community" and called for a stronger response to the ceasefire and the release of hostages, which could "open a path towards tranquility and stability in the region," as stated in a statement from the presidential administration.
Sisi cautioned about the risks of a new front being established in Lebanon and emphasized the necessity of maintaining Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.
His meeting in Egypt took place just hours after Israeli airstrikes targeted Lebanon. This visit comes against the backdrop of planned negotiations in Cairo, which will include CIA Director William Burns, aimed at achieving an increasingly unlikely ceasefire in Gaza.
