Ukrainian Orthodox Church Prohibited in Ukraine: Zelensky Signs Law
Mariam Z.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has signed a law that prohibits the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the country.
The draft law was prepared at Zelensky's direct instruction and was initially approved in the parliament in October 2023.
For nearly a year, it was not presented for second reading due to concerns from Ukrainian authorities that the proposal would not gather enough votes.
After final revisions on August 16, the relevant parliamentary committee of the Rada approved the draft law. Today, Zelensky has signed the law prohibiting the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
