Baku Presents 'Zorats Karer' as a 'Monument Located in the Historical Territory of Azerbaijan'

Recently, Azerbaijan has launched a targeted campaign against the sovereign territory of Armenia, aiming to 'legitimize' territorial claims and redirect the appropriation of Armenian cultural heritage through various cultural events, targeting both tangible and intangible heritage, history, and identity. This is reported by Monument Watch.

One such event was the gathering organized by the 'Western Azerbaijan Community' in Berdzor on August 6, as part of the 'Fifth Summer Camp for Diaspora Youth.' This camp, which took place from August 1 to 7, specifically gathered around 115 young individuals from 60 countries around the world.

The event is of state intention and promotes Ilham Aliyev's policy of appropriating Armenian territories, evidenced by the funding from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the organizational work carried out by the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, members of the 'Western Azerbaijan Community' made speeches regarding Azerbaijan's explicit territorial claims over sovereign Armenian territory and the false concept of 'Western Azerbaijan.' It is worth mentioning that in Azerbaijan, the term 'Western Azerbaijan' refers to the entire territory of present-day Armenia.

The event showcased the documentary film 'A Glimpse at Western Azerbaijan' and photographs depicting historical Armenian monuments as 'ancient Azerbaijani heritage.' In addition to the already declared Azerbaijani heritage sites in Lake Sevan, Syunik, and Yerevan, this time, the 'Zorats Karer' historical and cultural monument located in the Sisian region was also presented as a 'monument located in the historical territory of Azerbaijan.'

It should be noted that such events are ongoing, with the previous one taking place in Nakhchivan from June 21 to 22 as part of a cultural festival-conference titled 'Return to Western Azerbaijan.'
