Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin characterized it as “the protection of those people who have been subjected to mockery and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.” He stated that the operation involves the demilitarization of Ukraine and bringing all military criminals responsible for bloody crimes against the peaceful residents of Donbas to justice. In response, Western countries have imposed extensive sanctions against Russia.
