Iran's Permanent Representative at the UN Discusses Response to Israel Following Haney's Assassination
The Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations has outlined Iran's response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, by Israel in Tehran, according to Mehr news agency.
“Iran's response must yield two clear results. First, it should punish the aggressor for terrorism and for violating Iran's national sovereignty. Second, it should strengthen Iran's deterrent power and induce regret in the regime (of Israel) to prevent any future aggression. Iran's response should also avoid any potential negative impact on a possible ceasefire in Gaza,” the media cited his words.
The Iranian representation at the UN added that Iran would respond to Israel at a time and in a manner that would be unexpected. “Perhaps, when they look at the sky and at the radar screen, they will be taken by surprise by what is happening on the ground, or perhaps both one and the other together,” they noted in the representation.
According to a statement released by the IRGC, Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed on July 31 during an attack on their residence in Tehran. The statement indicated that Haniyeh's assassination was “planned and carried out by the Zionist regime with the support of America's criminal government.”
