EU Calls on Baku to Sign Peace Agreement with Armenia, Reports Say

The EU has urged the authorities in Azerbaijan to sign a peace agreement with Armenia, according to a report by EUobserver citing sources from the European Commission.

“It is time to take decisive steps towards sustainable and lasting peace. Azerbaijan should take advantage of the COP29 impetus to sign a peace agreement with Armenia,” the publication quotes a representative of the European Commission.

The source, referencing a representative from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that “serious obstacles still exist to signing a peace agreement in the near future, and the EU's position as an honest broker has been undermined.”

The representative of Azerbaijan's MFA stated that the so-called “cessation of Armenia's territorial claims” is a necessity for signing a “genuine and lasting peace agreement” between the two countries.
