Ukrainian Parliament Passes Law Banning Operations of Canonical Orthodox Church
The Supreme Rada has adopted a law that prohibits the activities of religious organizations linked to Russia, which allows for the banning of the operations of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was announced on his Telegram channel by Ukrainian parliament member Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
According to him, 265 out of 450 parliamentarians voted in favor of the bill. The law will come into effect 30 days after its publication. At the same time, he emphasized that communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be given nine months to sever all ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.
On Monday, August 19, Andriy Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, announced that the church in Ukraine would be stripped of "Moscow's influence." He stated that Moscow is using the church as a tool for its secret services.
