Prosecutor's Office Demands Seizure of 14 Properties and 3.5 Billion Drams from Alexander Sargsyan and His Family
The Prosecutor's Office demands the seizure of 14 properties and 3.5 billion drams from Alexander Sargsyan, the brother of Armenia's third President Serzh Sargsyan, his wife, and their two sons. This was reported by Public Television.
A court decision has imposed a lien on all properties owned by Alexander Sargsyan. It is noted that 4 of the 14 properties are located in downtown Yerevan, while 10 are in the Kotayk region. Additionally, 4 vehicles, a deposit of 1 billion drams, bonds, and shares in legal entities have been deemed illegal.
According to Public Television, the Prosecutor's Office began investigating Alexander Sargsyan's assets in 2021 based on operational intelligence data received from the National Security Service (NSS). The investigation has traced back to 1995, with the first illegal property being considered as real estate acquired in 1998 in the Balakhovit community of Kotayk.
“All individuals have been duly notified regarding the ongoing investigation and have been invited to the Prosecutor's Office to familiarize themselves with the materials and provide their stance. No one has presented themselves to the Prosecutor's Office yet,” stated Gevorg Kocharyan, Senior Prosecutor of the Department for the Seizure of Illegally Acquired Property.
According to Public Television, Sargsyan's lawyer has contacted the Prosecutor's Office and indicated that they will present in the coming days. It’s important to recall that in 2019, a criminal case was initiated against Alexander Sargsyan, where he was accused of large-scale fraud.
