Nuclear Safety Situation Deteriorating at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Following Drone Strike: IAEA
The nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is deteriorating following a drone strike today on the perimeter of the power plant, announced Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We are once again witnessing the escalation of nuclear safety threats faced by the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. I remain deeply concerned and reiterate my call for maximum restraint from all sides and strict adherence to the five established principles for the protection of the plant,” Grossi stated.
Earlier today, the IAEA's support and assistance mission (ISAMZ) reported from Zaporizhzhia that explosives delivered by the drone detonated just outside the protected area of the plant. The site of the drone attack was close to the main cooling water tanks and approximately 100 meters away from the Dnipro power transmission line, which is the only remaining 750 kilovolt line supplying power to the plant.
