VIDEO: Bloodshed in Turkish Parliament

In the Turkish Grand National Assembly, members of parliament have engaged in a physical altercation, according to the Turkish BBC service.

It is reported that the parliament convened at the request of Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş to discuss the case of Can Atala, who was imprisoned and dismissed in connection with the Gezi Park protests.

The scuffle broke out after a speech by Ahmet Şık, a member of the Istanbul branch of the Turkish Workers' Party. Looking at the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) members, Şık stated, “You have no shame. You have the least bit of shame. You have no dignity.”

This prompted AKP members to rise from their seats. Abdullah Güler, the head of the AKP parliamentary group, yelled at Şık, “Shut your mouth,” to which Şık responded with insults directed at him. AKP member Alpay Ozalan then struck Ahmet Şık, leading to a brawl between the parliament members.
