US State Department Approves $20 Billion Arms Sale to Israel
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has approved a $20 billion arms sale to Israel, which includes 50 F-15 fighter jets, vehicles, medium-range missiles, and ammunition for tanks and mortars, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency has reported.
"The United States is committed to Israel's security, and it is vital for our national interests to help Israel develop and maintain its capabilities for strong and ready self-defense. The proposed sale aligns with these goals," the statement said.
It notes that the proposed sale "will enhance Israel's ability to counter current and future threats from adversaries, protect its territorial defense, and serve as a deterrent against regional threats," while stating that it "will not alter the basic military balance of power in the region." Media outlets also report that the information about the deal has emerged amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
