Ahead of COP 29, Baku May Release Some Armenian Prisoners for Image Reasons, Says Sahakyan
The organization of the COP 29 event in Baku cannot be legitimate as long as humanitarian issues related to Armenian-Azerbaijani relations remain unresolved. Azerbaijan may, from the standpoint of maintaining its image and international reputation, once again pursue a deal and release a certain number of prisoners. However, I believe that those among them will not include members of the Artsakh military-political leadership, and we must be realistic.
In an interview with 'Factinfo', international law expert Siranush Sahakyan stated that the 'price' for the Artsakh military-political leadership is significantly higher and that Baku has other plans concerning their detention, and they will not be released until those plans are fully executed.
'The trials that need to replicate, so to speak, the Nuremberg trials are a crucial component of this plan. I believe there is a positive forecast that, in the period leading up to the event, Azerbaijan will nevertheless release a certain number of Armenians to save its reputation,' Sahakyan added.
