“Government Decision Dissolves 60-Year Giant with 22 Million Publications”: Garnik Danielyan
MP Garnik Danielyan from the Armenia Alliance parliamentary group shared on Facebook: “Today was the last working day at the Scientific and Technical Library (STL). By government decision, the 60-year-old giant housing around 22 million publications has been dissolved. Around 72 dedicated employees have become unemployed.
The library is unique in its nature; its copyright fund consists of 17 million entries and 18 million copies of documents from 77 countries in 66 languages. The rich collections include special types of technical documents such as patents, normative-technical documents, technical specifications concerning production, industrial catalogs, as well as various document-rich collections covering scientific and technical fields, including books, periodicals, electronic publications, abbreviated journals, and abstracts of dissertations.
It is sad to see the unique documents and books and think about their unknown fate. What is this, if not an intentional step to deal yet another blow to our science and education? In my meeting with the employees, I emphasized that their struggle over these months has not been in vain. I am hopeful that in the not-so-distant future, this baseless decision will be overturned, and the Scientific and Technical Library will continue its activities, serving as a foundation for the development of science, economy, and industry.”
