Turkey Threatens to Block Telegram: Reasons Revealed
Turkey has threatened to block the Telegram messenger service if it continues to ignore the authorities' requests. They have sent over a thousand inquiries regarding illegal content on the app, reports Daily Sabah.
The authorities are demanding the app to disclose information about administrators and participants of channels related to illegal drug trafficking, child sexual abuse, prostitution, and gambling. It is presumed that the regulator has sent more than a thousand letters to the messenger, but none have received a response.
On August 2, Turkish authorities blocked the Instagram social network in the country. It was unblocked on August 10. On the X social network, Turkey’s Minister of Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated that Instagram representatives promised the government to "work together on user censorship."
