Ministry of Defense: Reports of Drafting One Citizen Instead of Another Are Absurd and Unfounded
A resident of Vayots Dzor province, Syuzanna Muradyan, claims to have a document provided by the RA Ministry of Defense's Military Medical Department, which states that her 19-year-old son, Ayzatour Margaryan, is unfit for studying at the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute and is temporarily unfit for military service. However, she has now received a draft notice from the military commissariat to enlist her son.
According to Muradyan, "They have taken my child to the hospital again for examination—they have given him a new medical certificate. If they say that the child cannot go to the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute, how can he go to service if he is exempt from the army?"
"I called the Ministry of Defense's admissions office; they told me there is a clause that those with mild arrhythmia can go to the army. I said I understand your clause, but he is exempt," added Mrs. Syuzanna.
She also mentioned that she called the government’s hotline, where they refused to assist, stating that she should contact the Ministry of Defense's hotline for answers to her questions.
Auroranews reached out to Aram Torosyan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, who stated, "Reports and statements regarding one citizen being drafted instead of another are absurd and unfounded. The list of diseases determining citizens' fitness for military service and the examination procedure are defined by relevant government decisions, which specify that conscripts for mandatory military service are examined based on one column, while applicants for military educational institutions are examined based on a third column. There are numerous cases where citizens are deemed unfit for studying at a military educational institution but fit for military service with restrictions. As for the citizen mentioned in the publication, we inform you that after being deemed unfit at the military educational institution, he has been referred for both preliminary and additional examinations according to all his complaints, and as a result of the competent medical commission's examination, he has been deemed fit for military service with restrictions."
